Kelly Bridge - Making the Infrastructure

I believe that it is the buildings that provide the key visual interest to most layouts and it is therefore really important to have these made well and placed correctly.  It therefore follows that a lot of time is invested in these, and whilst some buildings were already ‘in stock’ for another project which I had not quite started yet, it seemed a good way to get ahead by using some of these.  However, I needed a station complete with booking hall and a goods shed.

Wills plastic sheets provided the basis for the stonework and tiles, and the windows and doors come from other various sources.  Below are a sequence of pictures showing it being constructed.  Great care is taken to follow the stone courses around each corner and join, and then everything is painted by hand including picking out each stone individually.  In total, the booking hall probably took 40-50 hours to complete!

Early beginnings, the first basic shell formed.  Here you will note the extra strength provided on the external corners by doubling the plastic and also triangular pieces to keep everything square.
All parts cut and assembled, no gutters or canopy at this stage !
Stone courses around the external corner and door are all filed and matched in.  Evergreen strips form the lintels, later all of the gaps are filled with Milliput filler and filed back.

Water goods now in place, roof and walls under-coated, window frames picked out in white, and the first elevation having received the hand painted stones.

Canopy now made and fitted, stones painted, but still a fair amount of paint to still complete
