Don't Assume Anything!

I’ve written elsewhere in this blog, that I used to rip up my layouts once complete and re-use whatever I could salvage but learnt that actually I could often sell on what I had made, with enough money being recouped to purchase what would have been otherwise salvaged.

This is a more recent lesson, when a gentleman living close-by showed a huge interest in a layout I had for sale but for one reason or another missed out on purchasing it.  Apart from being left with a feeling of guilt, as a dedicated railway modeller I am only too aware that the hobby needs as many new additions as possible, as the more people with interest and spending their money, equates to the hobby being supported by major manufacturers and of course those local model shops holding all of the invaluable stock which is needed to produce our layouts.

I therefore offered that I could produce a layout reasonably quickly if he would like, as I already had most of the buildings prepared from before and would need a baseboard completing and the scenery making.  He agreed, and whilst no price was ever mentioned I said that if he liked the finished product, we would surely agree on something that we were both happy with.
As always, my long suffering partner agreed to me giving my total attention for the next two and a half weeks to complete a 6x4 double main line layout.  I am also very fortunate, that she happens to have a huge amount of patience, not only with me, but also to be able to ballast the whole layout on her own!

It is just a shame, that once it was finished I offered the layout  to this gentleman for a viewing but seems his circumstances changed and was no longer in a financial position to look or buy.  Anyway, it has now been bought by another ‘new’ modeller who I hope will have many happy hours ‘playing’ trains.
As they say all is well that ends well, and this is surely true.  I have almost cleared a whole box of pre-built buildings I had, as well and using up a large amount of track and scenic materials from my stock box and will enable me to move on and replenish with new items.

Have a look at the video, and hope you enjoy watching the trains go by ............
